New Features of Stamps.com Version 8.0

August 28th, 2009

Stamps.com has released Version 8.0 of its software, and it’s better than ever. The new version of the software is packed with features including online reporting, the ability to submit e-refunds for international labels as well as much more.  Read on for the details:version-8.0

Online Print History
The new version of Stamps.com allows you access to your online postage purchases and print history from any computer connected to the web. At home and need to see if that important package was sent?  No problem.  All you have to do is log-in to your account online and you’ll see all the details – from what labels were printed to how much postage was purchased for a select time frame.

End-of-day processing of free USPS pickups and SCAN forms also can be scheduled and monitored online. This feature will be very beneficial for companies that have multiple employees printing shipping labels.   All the employees will be able to manage their postage and shipping needs from their workstation and then an office manager can complete the end-of-day processing from a completely different workstation.

E-Refunds for International Shipping
Previously, Stamps.com customers who needed a refund for international shipping had to mail in the NetStamp or shipping label along with a completed form to Stamps.com’s headquarters within 30 days of the postage print date. Version 8.0 eliminates that hassle by letting you submit the request through your software.   Now you can log in to the software, view your print history and select the label that was misprinted.

SCAN Forms for Express Mail
With Stamps.com Version 8.0, , Express Mail packages can now be scanned using the US Postal Service’s SCAN form program.  The Shipment Confirmation Acceptance Notice (SCAN) form program is a summary page with a bar code that includes all of your packages being sent on a particular day.      Once you give your packages to a USPS employee to be shipped, that person will scan the bar code on the SCAN form to show that the Post Office has accepted all the packages in your shipment.  This feature will make it easy for you and your customers to track packages from the start.

Not all Stamps.com plans offer the SCAN feature. If your plan doesn’t have it, contact Stamps.com for an upgrade.

Return Shipping Labels
Version 8.0 now makes it easy to have packages shipped back to you. Just locate the original label you used to ship the package to your customer in your print history and request a Return Shipping Label.   The software will create the return shipping label as a PDF which you can then email to the customer.

Stamps.com data retrieval is incredibly slow especially on Mondays. Now that that the peak mailing  is upon us, data transfer is incredibly slow period.  Some data I like to share with my buyers, and I don’t want to wait 2hrs or longer to get it.  Waste of time and money

I’m running version 9 and everything is working ok with exception to the history retrieval –this is an issue with their servers.  They are incredibly slow on Monday’s, and now that the peak mailing season is upon us, they are  incredibly slow period.  I want to add certain data to my buyer’s sales record, and I don’t want to wait 2hrs or more to do it… time is money.  Maybe I need to spend my money somewhere else

We hear your frustration Jsam. We do offer a web-based version that you can use without Parallels on a Mac. The program does not include all the features of the software, but it is very simple to use. It’s free to try with your regular Stamps.com subscription — check it out at http://www.stamps.com, then click on “Current Customer” link at top center and input your username and password.

    Thanks!

I have installed the new software and found it to be inconveniently slow on my computer; specifically, the history section is very slow. How can I switch back to the previous version?

    @Jacque Briskey
Hi Jacque, because the newest version interfaces with a server, this may affect the speed of certain processes. However, we would recommend that you contact one of our knowledgeable Technical Support Representatives regarding this issue. Due to the technical complexity of your question, the best method for us to properly troubleshoot your issue is over the phone. There are many possibilities/scenarios that could be contributing to the issue you are facing with the Stamps.com interface. As such, we may need to ask you multiple questions about your computer configuration to correctly diagnose the problem.

Please call us toll-free at 1-888-434-0055 (select option 4). Customer Support hours are Monday through Friday, 6AM to 6PM Pacific Time.

How can I ask a question to a sentient person? I got a message that my information had already been listed at another computer. To my recollection this is my first registration. Attempting to ask a question to a video screen feels like talking to the TV. The web site needs more clear ways to ask questions. Please inform me.

IS it any faster than the version 7.5? It takes forever to change cost codes and then print a stamp.

The question is – is it any faster than the previous versions? Right now, it is painfully slow to add or delete cost codes because they all reside on the internet instead of resident on my system like the older versions were. It shouldn’t take a full 5 minutes to print 2 or 3 stamps when I can lick and stick in 30 seconds.
