Poste Italiane Suspends Mail Service to Areas Affected by Coronavirus
Effective February 24, 2020, Poste Italiane has temporarily suspended mail service to areas affected by the recent coronavirus outbreak. For USPS deliveries destined to Italy, the USPS handles packages up to Italian customs, after which the package is handed over to Poste Italiane to handle delivery to the recipient. As such, the suspension will affect USPS mailpieces sent via Priority Mail Express International, Priority Mail International, First-Class Mail International, First-Class Package International Service, International Priority Airmail, International Surface Air Lift, and M-Bag.
The USPS will continue to accept mail destined to affected areas; however, this mail will be held by Poste Italiane until normal delivery is restored. Locations with temporarily suspended mail services include:

Update March, 16, 2020
Poste Italiane has resumed service nationwide, however, several temporary precautions have been taken:
- All mail items will be deposited in mailboxes, with a notice signed by the mail carrier
- If the recipient is not present or refuses to accept a delivery, the mail carrier will leave a notice of delivery and instructions for collection at a post office
- Items rejected by the recipeint will be returned to sender
